Up and Running In Less Than A Year

Early in the morning on Friday, July 26, 2013, a restaurant, offices and marine repair center in South Hadley, Massachusetts were completely destroyed by a fire that drew firefighters from seven surrounding towns.

The popular restaurant, established in 1959, was a total loss—right in the middle of the busy summer season. Fortunately, the marina did not suffer any damage and, with the help of friends and neighbors, the boats in the attached showroom were saved from the flames. The Lady Bea, the marina’s 53-foot river cruise boat, was also spared.

The third generation owner knew he had to work fast. He called his attorney and his accountant and they both directed him to PLA. The owner also reached out to a large marina on Cape Cod that had suffered a fire years earlier. PLA had settled that claim and the owner gave the marina owner a glowing recommendation.

PLA immediately reviewed the marina’s policy to see what was covered and then set out to detail every aspect of the loss—from the structure to the thousands of items that made up its contents. In addition, PLA worked to obtain the maximum amount that the marina could receive as a result of their business interruption and extra expense coverage. The settlement was in excess of a million dollars.

There is no question. If I had not secured the efforts of PLA, the insurance claim would not have been settled, and my insurance company and agent would have put us out of business. Thanks to PLA, my family’s business is now rebuilt and up and running.
